What a beautiful day for Phoenix and Vu! Originally their wedding date had to be shifted due to the global pandemic. Like many couples who planned Spring 2020 weddings in the Carolinas, they had to change their plans. This day may not have looked ‘normal’, but it was absolutely lovely in all the ways weddings can be. I’m grateful to have met these two!
We couldn’t have asked for better, breezy weather for their 11am ceremony this past Summer. They shared the sweetest ‘first look’ together, read each other’s letters, and while Phoenix balled her eyes out, Vu laughed. I love how playful and opposite they are from one another. I also love how relaxed their wedding day was. A little history on Phoenix and Vu is that they actually met online. I’m finding that half the couples I get to photograph have met online — so, props to all those good online dating sites! (‘Coffee Meets Bagel’ dating app to be exact, if any of you need ;)) Another fun fact is that both Phoenix and Vu are twins. Phoenix’s family is in China and could not attend the wedding, so of course many family and friends got to see parts of their special day virtually. Vu’s family was present, and I got to witness my first Vietnamese ceremony. You guys know I enjoyed all the vibrant colors of their traditional outfits they changed into.
They wowed us all with their first dance together to a salsa version of John Legend’s ‘All of Me’. They gave away custom chop sticks as wedding favors along with those favorite, mini hand sanitizers from Bath and Body works. Guests wore masks, the cake was guarded for precaution, and it was a smaller, more intimate day. They previously bought sparklers for the originally planned evening send off, but we still used them in the day time — because why not? With this interrupting season of “covid-19”, I’m happy that love cannot be interrupted! Today, you can tailor your wedding day to be exactly what you need.
