LABYRINTH FAIRYTALE WEDDING AT THE SECRET GARDEN ESTATE, NC

If you’re a fan of the classic 80s movie, ‘ Labyrinth ‘ and remember watching it during childhood as I do, you may be super intrigued with this particular eccentric styled wedding. If you’re familiar with the film’s strange scenes (directed by Jim Henson, creator of ’The Muppets’), you’ll recognize some of the props within this photoshoot. It has all the 80s fairytale vibes with a serious nod to David Bowie, the ‘goblin king’ himself. This was perhaps one of the most unique wedding inspiration shoots I’ve had the pleasure of capturing. I love seeing wedding details that are inspired from movies, and couples can take some serious inspiration from this session.

This fun, offbeat styled wedding took place in North Carolina at the Secret Garden Estate, an all inclusive wedding venue with a family catering service. The bride represented the character, ‘Sarah’ from the movie and was featured in two stunning lace gowns. Her look was complete with 80’s inspired hair, full of volume, decorated with lovely flowing hair pieces. Our groom represented the character, ‘Jareth’ from the movie as he was decked out in heavy eye makeup and big hair just as Bowie himself rocked the look in the film. Some scenes from the movie were brought to life with specific details such as the famous ‘magic’ crystal orb, a ‘helping hands’ wall, and even the animated door knockers. We even had an unconventional metallic blue cake with sugared shaped spikes and matching details giving a nod to the crystal orbs. The reception table was full of elegant, old world styled china and glassware, and we had a few masquerade masks for the couple as they shared a dance together. The cutest detail of all, definitely worth mentioning was the little baby boy, ‘Toby’. That’s right — we had a baby in the striped red onesie who emulated the main character that the movie’s plot is centered around. He even cried on command as he was held by the ‘goblin king’. If you know, you know! If you’re familiar with the movie, Labyrinth, and all of it’s peculiar scenes, you’ll enjoy the nostalgia within this shoot for sure.
